- Trending colour: PINK!
We’ve been seeing a lot of pink in 2019 and it’s here to stay in 2020! Whether on walls, textiles, accessories and furniture, pink isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Pink gives your space an elegant and tender touch to your home’s décor. Some of 2020’s trending shades will be in every shade of pink – pastel, old rose, peach pink-lila, etc.

Ditch the whites and greys. Come home to soothing, cooing pink that will quieten frazzled nerves and uplift grey moods. If you think pink is too girlish and can’t imagine pink walls everywhere, then go for pink cushions, pink rugs or art pieces with pink elements. Remember, pink is in.

It’s back to nature, so the trend is vegetable fibres such as wicker, jute and rattan. These materials will add personality to your decoration while reminding you and everyone who enters your pad about the environment. The rattan and wicker trend was a huge hit back in the 70s and lasted a decade, so its nostalgic resurgence caters to the environmentally conscious generation of today.

Thankfully rattan is easily found in Malaysia. We can easily get chairs, baskets, bags and almost anything in rattan. Rattan is timeless and will fit into any space, especially if you’re going for an earthly look. Also, woven baskets are preferred over plastic containers now since they are more environmentally friendly. And they also look charming as plant holders.
- Easy-care plants for the laid back
Speaking of plants, pop by your nearest nursery for convenient and low maintenance plants, such as aloe vera, snake plants and pothos (under RM30) OR if you prefer faux plants, Fiddle Leaf Fig and Monstera plant (RM100-RM150, depending on size) are ubiquitous in restaurants, cafes and Insta-worthy homes. Go ahead, bring a bit of jungle to your indoors. You’ll get fresher air too.

Maybe real plants aren’t your thing. How about using plants in some art pieces and display them on your walls? Or hang up some amazing plant photos (check out Unsplash.com). Printing foam boards or framing costs less than RM20.
- That 70s vibe
Somehow, the 70s glamour is back with a vengeance. Perhaps it’s our yearning for the good old uncomplicated days. Whatever it is, we are seeing a lot of modern shapes and patterns merging with natural décor. Jewel tones mixed with soft pastels create a dreamy colour palette and varied texture comes in the way of woven rugs, velvet, leather, tassels and fur.
